Here is an example of what one club is considering for new types of membership. Please share what you are doing in your club.
Proposed Membership Options for the Medina Breakfast Kiwanis Club
The following is a listing of the potential membership options available for those community members who wish to join the Medina Breakfast Kiwanis Club.
• Active, Honorary, Senior, Life, Affiliate/Associate, Family, Corporate, Company, Former Service Leadership Program Member, and Club Satellite. The Club may choose to amend these membership classifications from time to time but only upon a vote of the Board of Directors and the club membership.
• The description of each type of membership follows:
• Active – this member has full rights and privileges within the club including serving on the Board of Directors and holding office – they pay full dues
• Honorary – this member is a part of the club but pays no dues – can hold no office – can serve on committees
• Senior – pay a reduced rate – have full rights and privileges of active membership
• Life member – pays a onetime dues for District and KI – pays minimal club dues - has same privileges as active members
• Affiliate/Associate – volunteers who are supportive of the mission and purpose of Kiwanis International – pay a reduced annual fee to the club and district – can hold no office – can serve on committees – a sample dues would be 25% of the annual dues per year
• Family – all members of a family may belong with only one family member paying dues or paying a prorated amount for all members of family – club to determine rate – have all rights of active membership – sample amount is 100% per year for first member and 50% for all others
• Corporate- members from a specific company that pay a flat fee for those who belong- flat fee determined to cover KI, District, Division, and club dues- all are listed on the membership roles –all have rights of active membership – Flat fee should cover at least 100% of first member with additional amount based upon number of employees - KI has a sliding scale which is approved each year
• Company – members who list the company as the member of the local club – one individual is designated as the member representative - others from company may sub for this member when they are not able to attend meetings – all are listed on the membership roles – all have rights of active membership –Flat fee of $100% of dues per year for first member – 25% or 50% of dues for additional members – when designated member leaves club another individual can be designated as the company rep without filling a new member application
• Former Service Leadership Program member – two years of free membership after which they can move into another type of membership option – have all rights of active membership – club pays their dues
• Club Satellite – members of the club that meet at another time or location – they pay basic club dues plus dues to KI, District, and division – may move to active membership upon request and appropriate dues payment – operate as a sub group of the club to meet the needs of a specific service project or local area community –club satellites may also be designated to pay an affiliate/associate membership fee only if approved by the host club

In this cutting edge thinking book you will find out why you are here and how to help others to do the same. Covey helps readers find their Voice and inspires others to find their Voice. As Kiwanis leaders we should all read this book to help us not only find our voice but help those we serve find theirs. It is good reading. I recommend it.

In the book entitled "Strengths based Leadership" Tom Rath and Barry Conche challenge us to invest in our strengths. This investment will cause people to follow. It will help you develop a leadership style that will last beyond a lifetime.
